Each piece is shaped and finished by hand, so small differences in weight, size, finish and surface marking are normal and no two are identical. Colour on screen can differ from the metal in daylight. Handmade in India.

He kneels rather than sits. One knee is up and carries the weight, the other leg is folded flat with the toes cut in separately, and the pleated dhoti hem spreads on the shelf between them. The gada stands upright inside the left fist, its head a ribbed melon shape on a plain shaft. Behind the shoulder the tail rises in a full arc that clears the crown and drops a tuft beside the ear. Nothing sits under him; there is no base.

What is it?

A Hanuman murti holds to a few settled postures, kneeling, standing or in flight, and the two marks that fix the form at a glance are the gada carried in one hand and the tail looped up clear of the back.

Also known as a bajrangbali murti, hanuman ji ki murti, maruti idol, pital hanuman or anjaneya statue.

What is in the box?
  • 1 brass Hanuman murti
How do I look after it?
  • Wash by hand with a mild dishwashing liquid and a soft sponge. Dry fully with a cloth before putting it away — water left standing is what causes spotting.
  • Brass darkens. It reacts with air and with the oils on your hands, and a piece in daily use will dull within weeks. That is the metal telling you it is not plated.
  • To bring the shine back: a paste of lemon juice and salt, or tamarind pulp, or a proprietary brass cleaner. Rub, rinse, dry. Two minutes.
  • Do not use steel wool, scouring pads or bleach.
  • Not dishwasher safe. Not microwave safe.
  • If you would rather it stayed dark, leave it alone — a settled patina protects the surface.

Questions about this piece

Is this brass solid or plated?

Solid. At 1,250 g for a murti this size there is nothing hollow behind the chest, and the gada would snap off a plated shell the first time it was lifted by the mace rather than the body.

Will it look exactly like the photograph?

No two finish the same. The depth of the file work on the crown and the brightness of the polish across the chest shift from casting to casting, and the tail arc sets slightly differently each pour.

How tall is it really?

No height here, because nobody has measured this casting yet, and a guess two centimetres out is worse than a blank. Go by the weight in the spec above; that is the figure that separates a solid murti from a light one. Ask us and we will put a tape to the piece and come back to you.

Can I do abhishek on it?

Yes, bare brass takes water. Dry it properly afterwards. The awkward spots are the gap behind the tail arc and the fold where the dhoti meets the raised knee, and water sitting there greys the metal first.

Is the mace cast separately?

No. The gada, the fist gripping it and the arm come out of one pour with the body, so there is no pin or joint to work loose. The murti is a single casting from the tail tip to the toes.
