Each piece is shaped and finished by hand, so small differences in weight, size, finish and surface marking are normal and no two are identical. Colour on screen can differ from the metal in daylight. Handmade in India.

Each of the four sits cross-legged on its own flat cast base, chest bare under an open vest whose border is filled with round and square cabochons in coral red and turquoise green. The four are told apart by what they play. One holds a barrel drum across the lap with a star cut into the drum head. One carries a long-necked stringed instrument with the frets marked as ladder rungs. One leans over a flat box set on the ground with an engraved panel across its front, and the fourth sits with both hands drawn in at the chest. The stones stand proud in raised collars, so nothing is flat where the colour runs.

What is it?

A musician figurine set is a group of cast brass figures shown seated with their instruments, made for a shelf or a console rather than for a mandir, and sold as a matched group.

Also known as a musician showpiece set, pital figurines, dholak player statue or seated musician decor.

How do I look after it?
  • Wash by hand with a mild dishwashing liquid and a soft sponge. Dry fully with a cloth before putting it away — water left standing is what causes spotting.
  • Brass darkens. It reacts with air and with the oils on your hands, and a piece in daily use will dull within weeks. That is the metal telling you it is not plated.
  • To bring the shine back: a paste of lemon juice and salt, or tamarind pulp, or a proprietary brass cleaner. Rub, rinse, dry. Two minutes.
  • Do not use steel wool, scouring pads or bleach.
  • Not dishwasher safe. Not microwave safe.
  • If you would rather it stayed dark, leave it alone — a settled patina protects the surface.

Questions about this piece

Is this brass solid or plated?

Solid, cast right through. A plated shell in these four shapes would come nowhere near 4,000 g, so put the set on a kitchen scale the day it lands and the number answers the question for you.

Will it look exactly like the photograph?

Close, but not identical. Every stone is cut and seated by hand, so the exact colour of each cabochon and the way the polish sits on the faces shifts a little from one set to the next.

How big is it really?

Not yet measured, and we would rather say so than estimate. A screen flattens scale badly, and a small piece and a large one photograph much the same. The weight above is real. Tell us the space you are filling and we will measure the piece and tell you whether it fits.

Will it tarnish?

Yes. Unlacquered brass darkens in ordinary room air, faster near a kitchen. A dry cloth once a week keeps it bright, and left alone it goes a deeper honey brown, which many people prefer.

How many do I need?

The set is sold as four and reads as a group, so splitting it leaves the row looking short. One set is enough for a single shelf or console. A second set only makes sense on a long run of surface.

Will the stones fall out?

Each stone sits in a cast recess with a raised metal collar holding its edge. Knocks are the risk rather than everyday handling, so lift each figure by the body rather than by an inlaid knee.

Are the stones real gemstones?

We do not know and we will not tell you they are. What is in front of us is opaque red and green stone, cut as flat cabochons and seated into the metal by hand. Treat it as coloured stone rather than as graded gems.
