Each piece is shaped and finished by hand, so small differences in weight, size, finish and surface marking are normal and no two are identical. Colour on screen can differ from the metal in daylight. Handmade in India.

The wall runs out from a narrow base to a lip a good deal wider, and the hammer facets follow it the whole way, stretching longer as the metal opens. The rim is rolled over into a thin lip that sits flat against the mouth. Inside, the facets read as a rippled surface rather than a smooth one.

  • Hand Hammered
What is it?

A flared tumbler widens from a narrow base to a broad lip, the form buttermilk and lassi are poured into, so the drink meets a wide rim and the cup sits low and steady on the table.

Also known as a copper glass, tamba tumbler, lassi glass, water glass or conical copper glass.

How do I look after it?
  • Wash by hand with a mild dishwashing liquid and a soft sponge, then dry fully.
  • Copper darkens and takes a patina. Unlacquered copper reacts with air, water and skin. It is normal and it is reversible.
  • To restore the shine: lemon and salt, tamarind pulp, or a paste of flour, vinegar and salt. Rub, rinse, dry with a soft cloth.
  • Green or blue-green marks mean moisture has been sitting on the surface. Clean them off before use and dry the piece properly afterwards.
  • Keep sour and salty foods out of bare copper — lemon, curd, tamarind, pickle, vinegar.
  • For a drinking vessel: fill it overnight and finish it in the morning. Do not leave water standing for days.
  • Not dishwasher safe. Not microwave safe.

Questions about this piece

Is this solid copper or plated?

Solid. The facets show on the inside wall as clearly as on the outside, which is the tell that the metal has been struck through rather than stamped on one face only.

Will it look exactly like the photograph?

The flare and the rolled lip are the same on every pair. The facets are not, because each is struck by hand and they stretch differently as the wall opens out.

Why has it gone dark?

Copper darkens in air, and on a flared cup the rim goes first because that is what hands and lips touch. Lemon and salt bring it back, or leave the patina and let it even out.

Can I leave water in it overnight?

The metal takes no harm from it, and water kept in copper is old Indian household practice. The wide mouth means it will pick up dust, so cover it or empty it in the morning.

How much does it hold?

No capacity on the page, because it has not been measured. A number reverse-engineered from a picture is a guess dressed up as a fact. If you need it before you buy, write to us and we will fill the piece and tell you what it takes.

How many do I need?

One per person drinking. Two suits a household of two; for lassi or chaas at a family meal, count one for every seat and add a spare for the jug to be poured into.
