Each piece is shaped and finished by hand, so small differences in weight, size, finish and surface marking are normal and no two are identical. Colour on screen can differ from the metal in daylight. Handmade in India.

The jug carries a band of raised foliage right round the belly, and the same band, narrower, runs on the foot and on the two glass waists, which is what makes the three read as one set. The handle is a heavy cast scroll with a flower worked on the thumb rest, joined at the neck and again at the base. The lid is domed with a small bud on top and sits under a wide flared pouring lip.

What is it?

A hamper is a set of finished pieces chosen to go together and sold as one gift, so what arrives is a matched group rather than a single object that then needs something to stand beside it.

Also known as a brass water set, jug and glass set, peetal jug set or drinkware gift set.

What is in the box?
  • 1 brass jug with a domed lid
  • 2 brass glasses on stepped feet
How do I look after it?
  • Wash by hand with a mild dishwashing liquid and a soft sponge. Dry fully with a cloth before putting it away — water left standing is what causes spotting.
  • Brass darkens. It reacts with air and with the oils on your hands, and a piece in daily use will dull within weeks. That is the metal telling you it is not plated.
  • To bring the shine back: a paste of lemon juice and salt, or tamarind pulp, or a proprietary brass cleaner. Rub, rinse, dry. Two minutes.
  • Do not use steel wool, scouring pads or bleach.
  • Not dishwasher safe. Not microwave safe.
  • If you would rather it stayed dark, leave it alone — a settled patina protects the surface.

Questions about this piece

Is this brass solid or plated?

Solid. The three pieces come to 1,200 g together, most of it in the jug and its cast handle, and a plated set of the same size would weigh a good deal less. Weigh them yourself.

Will it look exactly like the photograph?

Close, not identical. The relief bands are pressed and cleaned by hand, so the foliage sits at a slightly different height on each glass and the polish takes light its own way.

What exactly is in the box?

Three pieces, and only three. One jug with a domed lid and two glasses on stepped feet, all in the same brass with the same relief band. There is no tray and there are no spare glasses.

Does it come gift wrapped?

The packaging for the hamper is still being settled with the maker, so nothing is stated here until it is. Ask before ordering if the wrapping matters for the occasion.

Can you send it directly to the recipient?

Direct despatch to a third address is not something we have confirmed we do. Until it is, treat the order as coming to you first rather than to the person receiving it.

How many do I need?

One glass per person at a meal, so the set covers two. A jug of this size sits better on a bedside table or a side table for guests than on a full dining table, where four to six glasses is the usual count.
