Each piece is shaped and finished by hand, so small differences in weight, size, finish and surface marking are normal and no two are identical. Colour on screen can differ from the metal in daylight. Handmade in India.

The petals are cut from sheet and folded up in two staggered tiers, copper over brass, so no petal sits directly behind another. Hammer facets run across the copper faces and break the light into flat planes instead of one even sheen. In the middle a turned brass pan carries three concentric rings cut on a lathe, with a short pin standing at the centre. The whole thing rests on a small brass collar foot.

  • Hand Hammered
What is it?

A t-light holder is a small metal cup or stand sized to take a standard tea light, set out in rows at Diwali and kept on a table or a mandir step for the rest of the year.

Also known as a tealight stand, votive holder, kamal diya stand, candle stand or peetal t-light.

What is in the box?
  • 1 copper and brass t-light holder
How do I look after it?
  • Wash by hand with a mild dishwashing liquid and a soft sponge, then dry fully.
  • Copper darkens and takes a patina. Unlacquered copper reacts with air, water and skin. It is normal and it is reversible.
  • To restore the shine: lemon and salt, tamarind pulp, or a paste of flour, vinegar and salt. Rub, rinse, dry with a soft cloth.
  • Green or blue-green marks mean moisture has been sitting on the surface. Clean them off before use and dry the piece properly afterwards.
  • Keep sour and salty foods out of bare copper — lemon, curd, tamarind, pickle, vinegar.
  • For a drinking vessel: fill it overnight and finish it in the morning. Do not leave water standing for days.
  • Not dishwasher safe. Not microwave safe.
  • The brass base and fittings clean the same way — lemon and salt, then dry.
How was it made?

Questions about this piece

Is this solid metal or plated?

Both metals are solid and joined, not one metal coloured to look like the other. At 200 g for a piece this small the weight is in the turned brass pan and the foot rather than in the petals.

Will it look exactly like the photograph?

The form will match. The colour will not sit the same, because copper reads pink when it is new and deepens as it is handled, so the contrast against the brass shifts from week to week.

How big is it really?

No dimensions yet, because none have been taken. The weight is the measured figure we can stand behind, and on a cast or raised piece it is a fair guide to bulk. If size is the thing that decides it, write to us and we will measure it before you order.

Will it tarnish?

Both metals will. Copper goes from pink to a deep brown and the brass follows more slowly, so a piece left alone ends up two shades of the same dark. Lemon and salt brings both back.

Does the centre pin get in the way of a tea light?

We are checking that with the maker before we answer it properly. The pin may be there to hold a cotton wick for oil, or to pin a tea light cup in place, and the two use different pan widths.
